Mining History:
Since the early 1900’s, the site has been explored and mined for many different commodities.
Early 20th Century: The deposit was first worked in 1906–1907 by the Calumet Mica Co. for mica and fluorite. Initial workings were limited to shallow pits.
1940s: In 1943–1944, the Twin Valley Prospecting Syndicate extracted approximately 18 tons of fluorite.
1950s: In 1950, J.M. Yates discovered the radioactive mineral uranothorite, leading to the formation of Yates Uranium Mines Inc. Four radioactive zones were identified and 105 drillholes were completed, totaling 10,000 feet. A mill was erected and a 550 foot adit was constructed. No mining products were produced.
1970s: the site was revisited by Futuranium to verify uranium reserves. They were unable to verify significant reserves.
1990s: Futuranium drops the claims, and the site becomes known for world class mineral specimens of appatite, fluorite, pyroxene, allanite, uranothorite, and other minerals.
2012: Nouveau monde aquires claims and consolidates a large claim block in search of graphite. They do extensive geology work. Despite outsanding results for REE, copper, molydenum, and uranium, they let the claims lapse in 2015. There has passed hands, but no geolgy work has been completed since.
